Bellingham’s York neighborhood is one of Bellingham’s oldest neighborhoods. Historically, the York Neighborhood was perhaps Bellingham’s earliest middle-class neighborhood. Harriet Spanel Park is an old elementary school site located south of Lakeway Dr it has a playground and open field which provides neighborhood recreation. There is another neighborhood park at the end of Iron street called Rock Hill Park. The neighbors have adopted the park to help maintain the community garden and flower beds. There is also a small playground to provide activity for children with a half court basketball space. This area has retained a strong family orientation through out the years.
